I currently own a SMART thermostat and the wire labels on the thermostat are D+, D-, GND and 12V but the wire labels provided have Rh, C etc. How do I wire the thermostat? (or I do not see the wires as described in the label)

In case of the SMART Thermostat, you will need to use the included Power Extender Kit (PEK). The Power Extender Kit will replace the Equipment Interface Module. Please review the steps below and if you require additional assistance please call ecobee support

Please follow the steps listed below:

  1. Power off the HVAC system
  2. Locate your HVAC control board in your utility room
  3. Connect the pre-wired side of Power Extender Kit to the respective terminals on the HVAC Control Board
  4. Remove the existing Equipment interface with wires connecting to the HVAC Control Board
  5. Disconnect the wires from D+, D-, GND and 12V from the Equipment interface and connect them to thermostat side of the PEK (PEK Cover)
  6. Label the wires using the labels provided with PEK and take a picture
  7. Return to your thermostat location and using the picture taken in the previous step, connect the wires to the ecobee3 back plate
